Tips for Staying Healthy During Season Change

stay-healthy-during-season-change

As fall begins this month and the weather starts to get colder, people tend to do more activities indoors. That’s when their chance of coming into contact with a virus increases. Why? Because the more time you spend outdoors with fresh air, the less likely you are to pick something nasty up (unless you already have allergies).

Here are my tips for staying healthy during season change:

#1 Stay Hydrated

stay-hydratedIf you have been following my fitness journey or are on my team, you know that I always carry a 20-oz aluminium bottle everywhere I go. Okay, maybe not everywhere but you get the point. I fill it up at least 4 times a day which equals to about ten 8-oz glasses of water a day.

If you don’t live in a region where there’s extremely hot or cold weather (I mean EXTREME), and that you’re always finding yourself using chapsticks, your body could be suffering from dehydration. You should drink at least eight 8-oz glasses of water a day for our body to do its job, e.g. maintaining an effective immune system. And if you’re doing a Beachbody workout program, you’ll need hydrate your body even more!

#2 Wash Hands, Properly

wash-handsWash means wash. Many people simply rinse their hands when they’re supposed to wash them. You need to wash and scrub your hands at least 30 seconds under running water and use soap if possible. If soap and water are unavailable, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that has at least 60% alcohol to clean hands.

Now think about the gym equipment that has yours or someone else’s sweat on.

#3 Exercise

Beachbody-workout-programsAccording to National Institutes of Health, exercising helps your immune system fight off simple bacterial and viral infections. While nobody knows exactly how by exercising can improve our immune system (we just know that it makes us feel happier and healthier), some theories point out that:

Physical activity may help by flushing bacteria out from the lungs (thus decreasing the chance of a cold, flu, or other airborne illness) and may flush out cancer-causing cells (carcinogens) by increasing output of wastes, such as urine and sweat.

Exercise sends antibodies and white blood cells (the body’s defense cells) through the body at a quicker rate. As these antibodies or white blood cells circulate more rapidly, they could detect illnesses earlier than they might normally. The increased rate of circulating blood may also trigger the release of hormones that “warn” immune cells of intruding bacteria or viruses.

Beachbody has someone of the greatest home workout programs. Many, including myself, have gotten great results from it. Not to mention that I haven’t gotten sick as much as I used to if at all since I started my journey In October 2012!

#4 Nutritional Supplements

multi-vitaminIn addition to working out at least 5 days a week, I also take nutritional supplements like Shakeology, multivitamin and fish oil every single day. Shakeology contains more than 70 natural ingredients derived from rich, nutrient-dense whole-food sources from around the world. The multivitamin I take is for regulating our blood pressure and promoting prostate and heart health. Fish oil on the other hand is high in Omega-3 which is great for vascular health.

I have been feeling great since I started this lifestyle and I don’t get sick much. If you’re interested in the supplements that I use and recommend, you can click here to check it out.
